WHAT IS WALKSCAPE

Walkscape is a project dedicated to getting people out of their cars. Blending art, design and functionality, Walkscape creates, renews and enhances spaces that promote and celebrate walking and other active modes of transportation while emphasizing the notion of play.  Specializing in painted works on the ground and wall surfaces, Walkscape can intervene directly in a given space to:

  • beautify pedestrian or shared spaces (crosswalks, walkways, alleyways, parking lots, mixed use)

  • implement wayfinding strategies and visuals

  • beautify and revitalize “dead spaces” i.e. neglected or under-utilized spaces

  • create visual cues to promote safety and increase overall awareness

  • implement traffic calming

  • support placemaking strategies

  • produce visuals that highlight a community’s cultural identity

  • create and enhance play areas such as playgrounds and school yards

  • produce visuals to accompany/promote a particular event (festival, street party, fundraiser etc.)

  • produce visuals that support urban planning initiatives / pilot projects

  • implement strategies  that encourage and promote active modes of transportation

Walkscape works in consultation with municipalities, businesses, schools, galleries, commercial associations and other communities to develop creative approaches to creating pedestrian and bike friendly spaces that are both visually stunning and functional. Walkscape also designs participative projects whereby participants of all ages and group sizes can assist in the design and implementation of the project.

Walkscape prioritizes the use of low VOC, water-based and non-toxic paint products that provide a variety of options in terms of durability and are tailored to projects that are ephemeral, semi-permanent or permanent in nature.
